The Dogs Bar

Dog's Bar is a groovy little wine bar just off the commercial drag of Acland St shopping strip. It's famous for being the first "bar" in Australia & the first licensed premises to have 'al fresco' dining. Dog's Bar is known for it's 'people watching' terraces, it's open fires and it's relaxed, casual approach to dining & great value for money.

Food is authentic Italian, no bookings required, casual dining. If we were in Italy it would be a Trattoria, in between bar & restaurant. Priced to make it affordable for everyday eating, for many local apartment dwellers in the area. 'Food with Integrity' is the focus. Local, seasonal produce, locally caught, fresh, sustainable species fish and ethically sourced meat from farmers who respect their animals. Some organic produce.

The arts hub is a big part of what Dog's Bar is known for in recent years. With live music every night, Dog's Bar supper sessions, provide a great after-dinner music experience, that's more background than in your face. A bit more New York or London. With frequent visual art shows changing the art on the walls, short film screening nights, storytelling nights, cabaret, burlesque and more, Dog's Bar not only offers art focused events, it supports the arts industry and those who work in it. In addition to the bar, there's a small performance space that was added in 2003 to enable Fringe & Comedy Festival performances to be held as well as establishing St Kilda SHORTS, short film screening seasons to be run.

Open throughout the day, Dog's Bar offers coffee and breakfast from 8am daily, lunch, high tea, pre-theatre dinner specials, dinner & supper until late, closing at 1am daily.

Able to host your special occasion or corporate event, Dog's Bar is a great place to celebrate, whether it's a small group in Dog's Bar or taking over our exclusive private dining room, we can make any event special.

We look forward to seeing you soon....
